First of all, let’s get the usual disclaimer out of the way. I’m not a financial advisor and none of what you read here is financial advice. The whole NFT space is highly speculative and the most hyped projects are no exception.

The projects I mention here are likely to sell out fast because of the interest around them, but may not be good long-term investments. In fact, some of them might be outright scams.

My mentioning a project here also doesn’t mean I’m going to invest in it myself. I may lose interest in the time between writing this and its launch, I may get priced out, or I may simply choose to allocate my funds elsewhere.

So, to sum up: Reading this post is only the first step in your research. Now it’s up to you to gather the intel necessary for you to make a decision about whether to buy a given project or not. With that being said, let’s take a look at some promising projects.

Weather Report

Weather Report has been one of the most highly anticipated NFT drops for a while now, so it deserves a spot in this rundown as well. It’s not flawless by any means though. For one, I can’t find any information about what the project is actually about or who’s behind it.

Even as of this writing, one day before launch, their website provides no other information than links to their Discord, Twitter, and a webshop with merch. Oh, and the webshop is currently closed.

Furthermore, the project ran into a bit of drama recently. I don’t know all the details, but here’s the high-level gist of it: The artist on the project felt unfairly compensated, got fired when he tried to renegotiate, and then took to Twitter to handle the internal dispute in public. You can read the founders’ take on it here and easily dig up some more details if you want.

So why am I still excited about the project? First of all, I don’t think the recent drama is any reason to abandon the project. Second of all, there still seems to be plenty of community support behind it. They’ve got 46k Discord members and lots of engagement in there. Lastly, there’s the artwork, which is arguably the main reason for the hype in the first place.

TheApeFam

TheApeFam is a collection of 10,000 3D apes built on the Solana blockchain. They’re meant to be used in an upcoming play-to-earn game and be used to breed baby apes in Q3 of this year. The team plans to launch the $AF token around the same time.

Personally, I don’t really get excited by the artwork or the roadmap and the anonymous team is a big red flag for me. That being said, their Discord community could indicate a rather high level of interest in the project. I’m curious to see how the launch goes and what the team will do with the funds.

Chosen Ones by Seek One

Seek One is a contemporary street artist based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He uses a combination of techniques expressed in a mixed media style influenced by pop and urban cultures. Chosen Ones is his first venture into the world of NFTs.

The collection of 7,777 generative artworks is based on hand-painted pieces that combine abstract and graffiti-style art. I’m personally a big fan of the artwork, the artist, and his story, and hope to pick up a piece or two when the collection drops.

WonderPals

WonderPals is another massively hyped NFT avatar project with more than 140k Twitter followers. It’s all about art, brand, and community. The latter is also a key reason behind the team’s decision to keep their Discord closed. You can read more about it on the WonderPals Medium account here.

Mina, the artist and founder of WonderPals, is a highly experienced freelance artist and senior product designer who’s worked with huge brands like Target, Tiffany, and Pinterest. With WonderPals she’s created a collection in a super cute, friendly, funny, hand-drawn style — a style that’s done very well in the NFT space recently.

WonderPals plans to open an online gift shop with an array of products and collectibles like apparel, plushies, stickers, and more. We can also expect collaborations with various projects and other talented artists.

I personally love the artwork, plans for the future, and the fact that the artist is also the founder of the project. I just hope I won’t be priced out when the WonderPals hit the secondary market.
